Programs for Educators
Invitational Summer Institute
At NWP-KSU's 2018 Invitational Summer Institute, you will be surrounded by teachers who are just as passionate about reaching students as you are. You will leave the Institute with an abundance of ideas for the classroom to inspire students to think much more deeply about reading and writing. Choose from one of five sites:
The Invitational Summer Institute is for teachers of all content areas and grade levels. Educators will learn strategies to effectively guide students toward critical analysis and clear writing that gives voice to their thinking.
Mark your calendar for the Institute, and share the flyer with colleagues to encourage them to attend. A discount is available to districts sending five or more teachers.
Registration forms will be available after January 15, 2018.
Write Here! Write Now!
NWP-KSU's flagship conference, Write Here! Write Now!, will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Kent State University's Kent campus.
Keynote speaker is author Daniel J. Porter. Born with dystonia, a muscle disorder, Porter struggled as a young child to speak and write intelligibly. Inspired by a creative writing teacher, Porter discovered his voice through the written word.
WHWN also will feature a number of workshop sessions in which teachers share their most successful strategies.
Handouts from the 2017 Write Here! Write Now! conference are available on the Resources page.
Twelve teachers who previously participated in the Invitational Summer Institute are engaged in the Advanced Institute for the College, Career, and Community Writers Program (C3WP), led by TCs Tammy Anfang and Jennifer Baker.
Funded by a grant from the National Writing Project, the Advanced Institute will be held through March 2018. The program provides concrete tools for helping students understand others' viewpoints and form and support their own arguments. Participants will then provide professional development opportunities through NWP-KSU, their own school districts, and more. Watch for future C3WP workshops!
